In this 1 hour class, we'll go through the fundamentals of fermentation, giving you all the knowledge you need to start confidently ferment at home. You'll also get stuck into making your very own jar of sauerkraut to take home - guided by your host, Romy, who will give you tips and tricks along the way.
It's light on jargon and your wallet.
This is a BYOJ (bring your own jar) event. We suggest anything between a 500g - 1 litre capacity jar.

What a lovely, wholesome experience! Our host was brilliant! A really casual experience with pearls of fermentation wisdom dropped throughout. We learnt something, we laughed and we all left feeling very happy with our jars of (soon to be) fermented cabbage! We've been burping the cabbage for a week and we're now wolfing down our sauerkraut as an accompaniment for most of our meals! Thoroughly recommend the whole experience! : )
Was looking for a different activity to do for a date night and was very glad to have chosen this! Romy is an excellent host, she’s very friendly and is clearly very knowledgeable about fermenting - have already told my friends to book a session in so we can all get in on the fermenting!!! Thank you very much, Romy :D xxx
Great workshop as an intro to fermenting. The host made a really welcoming environment and I felt really comfortable getting to know everyone!

Super interesting and fun class. Very informative learning about the fermentation process in a nice chill setting. Looking forward to trying my Kraut once it’s ready. Will be keeping an eye out for any other classes from Burp
A fun way to do something interesting and important – Sauerkraut.
Romy was a really fun and engaging teacher, and taught us both the method and the science behind it. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to learn a new skill or for groups looking for an activity.
Host Romy was super knowledgeable and friendly, learnt about the science and can’t wait to try some ferments at home. The group was lovely too we had such a lovely evening.
A lovely, uncomplicated and fun introduction to fermenting with Burp. Thank you Romy!
Our host obviously knew all the important information about fermenting and relayed it in a unfussy, hands-on and really enjoyable way.
Romy was a wonderful host and had so much knowledge about fermentation!
Super fun evening learning all about Lacto-fermentation and got to bring home my very own jar of sauerkraut at the end. Romy is a fantastic host, right from the off everything was explained really clearly and in a friendly, fun & accessible way. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go!
We had such a fun and informative time making sauerkraut with Romy! She explained everything really well and kept the entire group engaged and laughing throughout. Looking forward to indulging in our ferments when they're ready!
Please arrive at the Bristol Folk House for 6.30pm and bring your own jar with you so that you can take your kraut home with you to continue fermenting + eventually enjoy eating.
Feel free to wear what you like, but be ready to roll your sleeves up and get your hands in amongst it. We will be standing for most of the hour long session so do wear comfy shoes.
The onsite cafe will be open if you wish to get a hot drink and support this local independent.
