Birmingham’s Owlstock retro music festival is returning to Birmingham this bank holiday weekend on Sunday, 28 August 2022, starting at 2.00 pm.
Hosted by award-winning The Night Owl in Digbeth, the festival will take place in the city's cultural quarter, where you will find The Night Owl's purpose-built live music venue and nightclub.
A haven for lovers of classic retro genres such as soul, funk and psychedelic rock, The Night Owl will be showcasing some of the best of Birmingham’s live music scene and will feature sets from amazing tribute bands and DJs, all celebrating iconic 1960s and '70s performers such as Thin Lizzy, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters and more!
Best known for its quirky take on a night out in Birmingham, The Night Owl knows a thing or two about how to throw a vintage party, having recently hosted an '80s Stranger Things event and also a Pulp Fiction club night! Its ever-popular Owlstock Festival is inspired by the original cultural landmark of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Expect peace, love and good vibrations!
The festival will also include tasty street food pop-ups and retro decor. Party goers will be able to bask in the music and feel transported back to the festival freedom of the 1960s and '70s.
Tickets for this year’s Owlstock Festival 2022 are just £10 and can be bought here!
Here's a closer look at the awesome live music and DJ sets lineup:
What you can expect at Owlstock Festival 2022:
Topping the bill is 'Are You Experienced?' a Jimi Hendrix tribute band, once described as the most authentic one in Europe. The frontman has been known to play his guitar behind his head and (of course!) with his teeth in true Jimi fashion.
Other acts include tributes to The Who, Muddy Waters, Thin Lizzy plus some original live music and amazing DJ sets!
Besides all this, there will also be delicious street food pop-ups, signature cocktails and face painting stalls to get you into the festival spirit.
Bring out your vintage and retro festival wear
Owlstock Festival is the perfect time to get your glad rags on! Past events have seen a number of people choosing to celebrate the retro theme with an array of vintage clothing and '60s-inspired outfits. Think flower power with a glam rock twist!
The 1960s and '70s saw an explosion in new and exciting fashion trends. This was the age of go-go boots, mini-skirts and fringed jackets.
Rummaging around in vintage shops, charity shops and browsing apps like Depop or Vinted are all great ways to source your outfit. Plus buying second-hand clothes is an eco-friendly and sustainable way to find what to wear to a festival. Once you're done with it, donate it or put it away for next year's Owlstock!
While dressing up is optional, if you're looking for inspiration then I would suggest anything with a bold floral print. You could also have a rummage for corduroy, mustard colours or even whip up your own flower crown. And if in doubt, simply track down a pair of flairs and you're good to go.
