Winter Solstice: Music, Dinner and Storytelling

Come and celebrate Winter Solstice with your host Wild Folk, and enjoy this magical experience set deep in the woods.

During this experience, you'll enjoy folktale storytelling with Pridie from The Wild of the Words, as well as live music from Bristol-based folk and Americana duo Fritillaries.

You'll also be served a heartwarming supper from Bristol-based fire-cooking heroes Ubuntu Food. 'Ubuntu' originates from an ancient African philosophy rooted in humanity's connection to one another and nature. In its simplest translation, it means; I am, because we are.

Ubuntu Food aim to curate unique experiences centred around food and fire. They champion a relationship with nature and strengthening communities, making them the perfect partners for this magical Winter Solstice celebration.

The menu Expect hearty food served straight from the fire pit. Using locally sourced seasonal ingredients fused with South African spice blends, Ubuntu's food feeds the soul. Think less hot spice and more of an inside Winter warming hug. Their signature split pea smokey dal will be served with fat wedges of sourdough focaccia and tangy preserves to create a flavour experience perfect for the season.

This experience is for adults (under 1s free entry with adult).

For an earlier, family-focused experience, please see our Winter Solstice Family Storytelling in the Woods event.

Important information - Please arrive for 5:30pm so your hosts can guide you into the woods. - Supper, storytelling and live music will all take place between 6.00pm and 8:00pm. - You can stay enjoying the woods and the company until 8:30pm. - This experience takes place in a woodland with a parachute cover. Although you'll be well protected from rain, and warm with the central fire, it is still important to wear some waterproof layers and to wrap up warm. - Please enter any dietary requirements in the notes section at checkout (we can cater to most. Send me a message if you want to make sure before booking.)

If you're unable to arrive at 5:30pm and would need to join a little later, please let me know and I'll see what we could do.

You'll be hosted by

Wild Folk

Wild Folk is all about getting outside, and putting on creative events in magical green spaces in and around Bristol such as foraging workshops and fireside storytelling.

The aim is to help people grow their own personal nature connection (whilst improving their general wellbeing) as well as connecting with other ‘wild folk’ to do these activities with. At every event, we encourage a sense of community, if only for a few hours. You can expect foraging walks, creative workshops, feasts, storytelling and poetry.

Hannah Morris

Hannah was inspired to create Wild Folk to help people immerse themselves in nature, enjoy cooking on fires and socialise in a supportive community. She started Wild Folk as a meetup group here in the South West that people could come to alone or with friends, and now offers a variety of nature experiences.

Pridie Tiernan

A self-confessed story obsessive, Pridie takes stories outdoors and brings them to life as a teacher, writer and traditional storyteller. Pridie is an experienced educator and professional storyteller, performing and delivering workshops for all ages. Her focus is always on combining traditional folk narratives, myths and legends with rich outdoor experiences.
