From 2009 to 2023, pieces of the Red Dress travelled the globe being continuously embroidered onto. Constructed out of 87 pieces of burgundy silk dupion, the garment has been worked on by 367 women/girls, 11 men/boys and 2 non-binary artists from 51 countries.

Such a pleasure to be able to view this magnificent dress! Loved the concept of sustainable fashion week too. Only suggestion I have to improve the experience is to better signpost how to enter the building. We went to the wrong entrance initially which wasn’t ideal in a heavy rain shower!! Otherwise fantastic
I had looked forward to the exhibition having been recommended to see it by friends in Durham and having done research online. I found the dress itself and the story behind it absolutely fascinating. My companions were also impressed and we enjoyed closely examining the dress and the details we discovered, as well as our interactions with other attendees.
We found the film very useful to watch and would recommend encouraging others to view it too; possibly before looking at the dress itself. .
It was my 3rd time seeing the dress. I would have liked to have seen it on a bigger plinth as I felt the skirt needed to be spread out a bit more.
Each time I see the dress I discover something new and I renew the connection I feel to it. Everyone should see the dress and understand its representation.
good space, friendly staff
Thee dress was so worth the visit, it was amazing.
An amazing experience
Stunning, including the story behind it. Well worth the visit
I didn't know it was on, but am so glad I heard about it as it was awesome! What a thinker, to come up with such an amazing idea, over 14 years, wow! The dress is utterly beautiful, but also for the human benefits - it has changed people's lives, taking them out of poverty, or abusive relationships, feelings of self worth, fostering international relations and leaving a wonderful memory of a unique experience. I invited a lady along with me (who was thrilled!) and told others.
Thank you. xxx
Wonderful chance to see a the Red Dress close to home and hear how it was made.
I had wanted to see the Red Dress for a long time and I was not disappointed. It was an absolutely amazing piece of work and so excellently presented and the accompanying film put the creation of the dress in context.
A beautiful exhibit given depth by the accompanying film.
A wonderful experience seeing this extraordinary dress and learning a little of the embroiderers on the accompanying film. A privilege to have time to study the stitching in a quiet space in good light.
What a wonderful experience to see the dress in real life, after reading so much about it. The film was fascinating, and my respect goes to all the women who contributed.
I found seeing and hearing about the 'Red Dress' a moving and inspiring experience. I appreciate the vision and purpose along with the fine execution of the work and sharing of the whole result.
Heartwarming and world connecting.
The Red Dress Project is an amazing collaboration of stitchers across the world. It has brought together people in need of support, offering them a space in which to find some solace. The result of their work - all coordinated by the inspirational Kirstie MacLeod, is breathtaking. It feels that the juxtaposition of styles and colours shouldn’t work - but it does. All manner of embroidery ranging from elaborate metallic thread work to simply formed motifs. The simple white setting was perfect.
The Red Dress is amazing and well worth viewing.
Absolutely LOVED seeing the Red Dress, what an amazing achievement and so worth a visit
Lovely to see & hear more about red dress - wasn’t sure if student facilities were open to public & might be something to sign post better at this location
Loved the Dress and the whole ethos of the project. Location- baron, no atmosphere and no parking.
Overall brilliant but would have loved a larger platform on which the dress was displayed in order to appreciate all the needlework thoroughly.
Fascinating, Life affirming, Heartwarming , a most beautiful and unique dress simply displayed to great effect.
Great project executed beautifully - serious subject and it might have been nice to find out more about the personal stories behind the individual works of embroidery anonymised of course. Perhaps some close-ups of the embroidery up on the walls would have made it easier to see sections which are hidden behind and under the folds of cloth
Awesome
The Red Dress is in itself a beautiful piece of art bringing together skills and memories from a worldwide perspective. A collective beauty 😍
The lack of parking was a huge inconvenience. I’m 75 and drove from London in torrential rain to see this amazing exhibit. There were others at the exhibition who were concerned.
