Drop your child or teen off for a one day kids sewing experience designed to teach the basics of machine sewing. This is the perfect workshop to build confidence and skills along with learning essential troubleshooting techniques.

Here, our experienced sewing tutor Lauren will go through all aspects of the sewing machine including threading and setting up, different stitches, applique, and making and joining pieces of a simple pattern. Your child will then make their own lined drawstring backpack with either an outside pocket or appliqué design.

We will have two breaks throughout the day and all drinks are provided, however we do not provide lunch. If your child has any allergies, addition needs, or if there is anything we need to know in preparation for the day please let us know on booking.

For 9yr olds+, max 6 students. Class runs from 10am-3:30pm and includes materials, machine and sewing kit hire. If your child has their own machine they would prefer to use they are welcome to bring it. This is a drop-off course but a carer may stay if that works better with your child. Just let us know so we can plan the layout.

On the day

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of the workshop. There is ample free parking in the streets around the venue. Please supply your child with any lunch and/or snacks. We will provide drinks but please inform of any dietary requirements before the workshop.

Lauren Holloway (She/Her)

Designer and Maker Lauren Holloway has been running her own slow-fashion handbag and accessory brand since 2013. Lauren specialises in making sustainable bags, purses, laptop cases and toiletry storage, all handcrafted in her Bristol-based studio. She has extensive knowledge and experience in designing patterns and sewing anything from coin purses to backpacks. Lauren offers a range of sewing workshops from beginner to intermediate level, where participants can learn the basics of using a domestic sewing machine, brush up on existing sewing skills or develop new techniques to improve their craft. You’ll leave the workshop with new-found knowledge and inspiration for future projects plus you’ll take home a beautiful handmade bag you can enjoy for years to come.
