Do you have a bit of sewing knowledge, but want to take things to the next level? Are you afraid of sewing the dreaded zipper and need a little helping hand?

If so, this intermediate wash bag workshop is just the trick! With expert guidance, you'll cover new skills and learn some handy tips and tricks.

In this three-hour experience, you will learn how to make a beautiful and functional canvas wash bag. Your wash bag will be designed with handy outer pockets, waterproof lining and zip closures so you'll get the opportunity to practise a range of sewing techniques!

You'll be taken through everything step-by-step, under the wing of your experienced host who'll ensure you leave with a gorgeous handmade wash bag, which you can keep for yourself or gift to a lucky loved one!

In this experience, you will learn

  • General sewing techniques
  • Edge stitching
  • Sewing a zipper
  • Boxing corners
  • How to achieve a professional finish

All materials, tools, and accessories will be provided, including the gorgeous Japanese wax fabric that your wash bag will be made from.

However, if you fancy making something totally unique to you then you're welcome to bring a fabric of your choice. Sewing machines will be provided but if you would like to bring your own machine, please let the host know via email after you've booked.

On the day

Please let your host know if you would like to bring your own fabric. She recommends 100% cotton, cotton canvas, medium weight linen or wax canvas cotton fabric. If you want contrasting fabric for the outer pockets, bring two choices. Don't use stretchy fabrics like jersey.

Please arrive 10 minutes early and bring a bottle of water and snacks if required.

Paid parking is available outside the venue on North Street or there is free parking in the nearby residential streets.

Designer and Maker Lauren Holloway has been running her own slow-fashion handbag and accessory brand since 2013. Lauren specialises in making sustainable bags, purses, laptop cases and toiletry storage, all handcrafted in her Bristol-based studio. She has extensive knowledge and experience in designing patterns and sewing anything from coin purses to backpacks. Lauren offers a range of sewing workshops from beginner to intermediate level, where participants can learn the basics of using a domestic sewing machine, brush up on existing sewing skills or develop new techniques to improve their craft. You’ll leave the workshop with new-found knowledge and inspiration for future projects plus you’ll take home a beautiful handmade bag you can enjoy for years to come.
