Sustainable Food: Family 'Grow Your Own' Workshop

Introduce children to the magic of growing and cultivating their own food in this hands-on planting and circular food workshop. You will learn how to upcycle 'waste' food, witness the wonder of composting, and pot up your own seeds to start your journey towards amazing food.

Your host, Alex, is an ex-chef and PhD researcher in UK Food Systems. He founded 50 Ways To Cook in 2019 to reconnect us with where our food comes from. His workshops and easy-to-use grow kits help anyone to grow their own fruit, veg, and herbs at home.

During this workshop, Alex will share his passion for urban and circular food systems and help you understand how to grow your own farmed food that nourishes both people and planet.

What is 'Circular Food?'

Alex will reframe the narrative around food 'waste' showing you a variety of composting techniques. There will be soil, fungi, and maybe even some worms!

After mixing your own nutrient-rich, chemical-free compost, you will then pot up your very own seeds to take home and begin your journey towards a circular food system.

If you are keen to grow more at home, you can also purchase one of Alex's Natural Grow Kits, containing additional seeds, compost, natural soil enhancer, and full instructions.

Please note: Parents are responsible for supervising their children at all times during the workshop. Your host has public liability insurance and carries out risk assessments, but they are not responsible for children attending under their parent’s care.

Age restrictions: 5+

Parent + Child (one adult accompanying one child) £25
Additional Adult or Children (one additional adult or child) £5
