Night Sky and 360° Film (Earth's Wild Ride)

Enjoy a presenter-led guided tour of the current night sky, followed by a story about the Earth delivered from the Moon in the year 2081! Learn how to easily find the red planet Mars and the giant planet Jupiter in the sky, as well as the hottest planet Venus after sunset.

Gaze at light from a huge dying star about to explode (and that may already have done so), yet we won't know for another 700 years! Next it's time to dim the lights and begin our 360° cinema experience, where we imagine what life will be like for people born on the Moon in the not-too-distant future. For example, did you know they'll never be able to visit the Earth?

Experience a snow blizzard, an erupting volcano and a thunderstorm all in 360° - spectacular terrestrial phenomena that don't occur on the Moon. We also view a solar eclipse from the Moon, and travel back in time to see how the dinosaurs went extinct!

What to expect:

  • ⦿ A presenter-led guided tour of the current night sky.
  • ⦿ An exciting preview of a future colonised Moon.
  • ⦿ Tips on finding Mars, Jupiter and Venus in the evening sky.
  • ⦿ Learn to locate and observe light from a star that began its journey 500 years ago (and is about to explode).
  • ⦿ A 360° cinema experience exploring the natural forces that shape our planet.
  • ⦿ A thought-provoking discussion on what life will be like for future inhabitants of the Moon and Mars.

PLEASE NOTE :

  • ⦿ Audiences sit on foam flooring and adults may wish to bring a cushion. All children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult, and babies in arms go free.

  • ⦿ The planetarium is dark when displaying the night sky, and the dome fan is a little loud during entry and exit.

  • ⦿ Moving 360° imagery may cause motion sickness. Close your eyes / look away and it will pass.

  • ⦿ Due to the size of the venue and the snug fit of the dome, it's unfortunately not possible to accommodate wheelchair users at this event [yet our events at Aerospace Bristol are wheelchair accessible].
