Mozart by Candlelight at Bristol Cathedral

Experience the extraordinary work of Mozart's Requiem in the majestic setting of a candlelit Bristol Cathedral with over 400 candles recreating the original first performance in Vienna on January 2, 1793...over 230 years ago!

The location:

Bristol Cathedral is one of England's great medieval churches. Located on College Green, the cathedral has tall Gothic windows and pinnacled skyline with vaulted ceilings in the nave, choir, and aisles all at the same height and amazing 'starburst' recesses line the walls beneath.

The music:

Mozart's Requiem is one of the most famous choral works in the classical repertoire, a masterpiece whose genesis is shrouded in mystery.

Mozart received an anonymous commission to write the works and believed he had been cursed to write a requiem as a ‘swansong’ for himself. He died before he could complete the works and as a result, the world and his wife have tried to complete it after him. Regardless, the Requiem still sounds wonderful to most ears.

To complete the programme, rising star Bethany Crouch joins the Bristol Ensemble in a performance of the much-loved Clarinet Concerto.

The orchestra & choir:

The Bristol Ensemble are Bristol's top professional orchestra and will be joined by the wonderful singers from the Fitzhardinge Consort who bring international-standard, rarely-performed choral music to the South West of England.

Seating options

You can choose which section of the cathedral to sit in during checkout: south nave, north nave, front nave or middle nave. South nave and north nave tickets are unreserved, front nave and middle nave seats will be allocated on the day when you arrive to collect your tickets from the box office.
