Step into a world where time slows down and distractions disappear, with the colourful, playful, meditative art of Suminagashi: ancient Japanese Paper Marbling. Suminagashi means "ink on water" and here, water becomes canvas and ink becomes poetry.
The art of Suminagashi invites you by its very nature to release all expectations and embrace the beauty of impermanence as you collaborate and dance with the water and special Japanese inks.
Led by Brighton artist Lisa Ibbetson, who gently guides students to relax into their creative flow, a place where inspiration and intuition meet. This hands-on workshop teaches you to create your own hypnotic images and artworks as floating inks dance across still waters.
With gentle guidance, each created image is lifted from the surface of the water and onto paper- an unrepeatable moment captured through collaboration between artist and element.
No creative experience is needed, only curiosity and openness to possibility. As you watch your designs unfold, you'll find yourself naturally relaxing into a state of peaceful focus, where time seems to pause and creativity flows. This is the gift of suminagashi - it gently guides us away from perfectionism into a space of mindful play and discovery.
You'll leave with your own collection of unique art prints, but the real treasure is the experience itself - a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful things emerge when we learn to let go, relax and trust the process... and of course a skill for life.
Perfect for anyone seeking: - A creative escape from daily pressures - An introduction to mindfulness through art - A unique way to create one-of-a-kind art prints - The joy of artistic flow without performance pressure
Whether you’re seeking calm, inspiration, or simply a unique creative experience, Suminagashi offers a serene journey into the art of slowing down and discovering beauty in the present moment.
