Rebecca is a resident maker at Silver & Steel and is passionate about learning. She first started her jewellery journey in Bristol with evening classes and continued her studies in Berlin with Susanne Matsché, when she moved in 2020. Since returning to Bristol she has completed a Diploma in Silver Jewellery with the Jewellers Academy and makes and sells through the gallery. As a self-proclaimed life-long student and former academic, with a PhD in Geography, Rebecca has an experimental attitude towards craft and adores contemporary jewellery. As well as hand fabrication Rebecca creates pieces using the ancient process of lost wax casting and is developing her skills in contemporary filigree. Rebecca has over 10 years of teaching in different contexts, including academia and as a yoga teacher which she has been teaching for the last 8 years. She has a considered approach with an interest in design and will gently guide participants to make their very own handmade silver rings.
Maxine is an experienced jeweller, with over 10 years experience within design, making and teaching. Graduating with a BA in Silversmithing in 2009 at Plymouth University of Arts, Maxine then went on to work as Technician for the Jewellery & Metals Studios where she studied, supporting students in their learning for their degrees. In the last 4 years Maxine worked alongside other talented jewellers at Diana Porter where she deepened her knowledge about jewellery design. Her experience in making alongside her patient and supportive teaching style will help you feel creative and confident when beginning to learn how to make jewellery.
