Learn to capture the art of movement at Bristol's tutored Live-Motion Drawing workshop. Guided by movement artist, Sachin Babbar, the sessions cover fundamental techniques such as gesture drawing, form and dynamic composition to help you translate the energy and vitality of dance onto paper.
An array of local talented dancers from varied disciplines (Contact Improvisation, Contemporary, Ballet etc.) will feature as the subject of this series of workshops. They will act out still poses and dance sequences specially curated to introduce you to this art form.
All skill levels welcomed and encouraged. We will explore the power of motion in a relaxed and supportive environment. Paper, paints, and drawing equipment provided. Please bring a cushion or mat for sitting on.

Getting here:
I am a British-Indian artist based in Bristol, with a passion for exploring a wide range of artistic mediums. Recently, my focus has been on the traditional Japanese brush painting style known as 'Sumi-e'. For me, the movement of the brush and the bleed of the ink into the paper is a meditation. There is an aliveness to the paintings and a rhythmic quality. As though the painters were dancing in the process.
Inspired by this connection between art and movement, I launched my latest project, Moving Ink, where I explore the dynamic relationship between live ink paintings and the fluidity of dancers. This project has also informed my own process, where I integrate movement from my body into my painting practice.
I now offer a series of workshops sharing this art form, including ‘Live-Motion Drawing Workshops’ where participants learn the fundamentals of gesture drawing and capturing motion with dynamic poses. I also host playful, movement-based painting sessions called ‘Play and Paint.’ My aim is to help others experience the joy of creative expression through motion, while teaching techniques that bring art to life.
