Introduction to Oil Painting

Discover this versatile painting medium, a favourite of professional painters. Join a group introduction to oils and learn how handle your paints and materials with confidence, to produce colours that work for you, with a practical, clear system for working. These supportive sessions are designed to take some of the mystery out of using oils, with regard for the environment and without using solvents, You’ll also be introduced to some relevant art history and art appreciation, to provide a richer context for your learning.

This can be attended as a stand alone workshop, or as a useful introduction to regular weekly classes.

On the day

Your Introduction to Oils workshop includes all materials but please bring a notebook or sketchbook, and something to protect your clothes. We're at Lon Fach, Rhiwbina Cardiff CF14 6DY. A map is available on our website page www.theartworkshop.co.uk. Parking is on street nearby but not in Lon Fach, outside the studios. If you have any mobility needs please notify us. Rhiwbina Train station is a two minute walk, buses run regularly. Please arrive about ten minutes before the 2pm start.

Can't make it? We understand things happen! You can cancel and get a full refund up to 14 days before your experience.
Please note that this refund policy does not apply to gift bookings. You may reschedule your gift if outside the time period stated above. Please note that Yuup gift cards are valid for redemption for 12 months, and if not redeemed by this date, you will get a Yuup credit added to your Yuup account equivalent to the unspent value of the Yuup gift card less a Yuup administration fee of 20%.

The Art Workshop

The Art Workshop is a welcoming and supportive independent Art School for all ages based in Rhiwbina Garden Village, Cardiff. Learn to Draw, Paint, Make, understand more about art from every era and try different materials and techniques, guided by a team of supportive, qualified tutors, in friendly small groups. We offer daytime, evening and weekend courses for adults, teens and children.

We are proud to have a dedicated team of qualified artists creating bespoke courses in their respective disciplines. We offer one-off workshops and longer courses for adults in Oils, Acrylics and Watercolour Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, Textile Art and more. We also run weekly classes for children aged 7-12 in our popular Junior Art Academy, children's holiday workshops and a termtime weekend Teens Art group.

The Art Workshop art school was founded in 2013 and the teaching studios are based in our own 1920's building, in historic Rhiwbina Garden Village, North Cardiff.

Genevieve Loxton (She/Her)

Genevieve Loxton is a founding member of The Art Workshop art school, established in 2013 at their studios in Rhiwbina Garden Village, Cardiff. She specializes in teaching Oil Painting and Art and Drawing courses to a wide range of students, and her ethos is that everyone can learn and enjoy Fine Art in all its different forms. Her courses incorporate Art History and relevant theory from all eras to introduce learners to the exciting world of art and artists, and she believes in making Art learning accessible and enjoyable to all. She is proud to work with her team of qualified artist tutors providing high quality learning experiences for all ages. Genevieve is an award-winning graduate of Cardiff School of Art and Design, majoring in Fine Art Painting.
