Experience the wonders of nature on a captivating journey through the ancient woodlands of the Forest of Dean.
This guided daytime walk will take you through stunning woodland as you listen to bird song, watch for woodland birds, scan the skies for birds of prey and seek out the tracks and signs of wild boar and deer. Get up close to fascinating mosses, lichens and woodland flowers on the forest floor, spot butterflies and lizards, dodge dung beetles on the forest tracks and experience the best each season has to offer!
Whether it’s spotting woodland and water birds in winter, tuning in to the cacophony of bird song in spring, finding butterflies and wildflowers in summer or enjoying the blazing spectacle of autumn, there is always so much to see and experience in the forest. Your host, Liz, will help you identify the wildlife you see, while also sharing fascinating facts about the forest’s rich history and important ecology.
Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or simply seeking a peaceful escape, this guided wildlife safari offers an opportunity to connect with the natural world and discover the wonders and beauty of this unique and enchanting landscape.

The activities are held outdoors at a time with social distancing easy to achieve. Participants will use their own transport and only those not experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms will be permitted to attend.
Your host Liz follows the current government guidelines on groups sizes. The covid-19 risk assessment is part of the overall risk assessment completed.
You will be out for around 2 hours and walk approx 1.5 to 2 miles (2.4–3km) at a steady or slow pace, taking in the scenery, sounds and wildlife along the way.
The walk takes place along well-surfaced tracks and you are able to venture off onto smaller paths and gentle uphill or downhill terrain.
Binoculars, sturdy shoes or boots and weather-appropriate clothing are advised.
Liz is a freelance naturalist, writer, editor and artist with over 20 years of experience studying, writing about and watching wildlife, as well as editing books about the natural world. She has a passion for the Forest of Dean, with a particular interest in its wild boar, and can’t wait to introduce you to this enchanting landscape and its fascinating wildlife.
