Come along to a relaxed workshop where you can master some new skills. Learn how create artwork using a method called drypoint etching and get to grips with a traditional printing press in this experience run at Creative Space on the High St in Staple Hill.
In drypoint etching, a design is drawn or scratched on a plate with a sharp needle-like instrument, inked up by hand and then run through a printing press- making each print truly one-of-a-kind.
In this workshop you will:
All materials, in addition to tea and coffee, will be provided for your evening of crafting to be complete.
Treat yourself to some relaxing me-time and leave feeling revived. Just take it from these previous guests:
'I loved this workshop- full of inspiration' 'Thank you for your great workshop! It was fun and relaxing at the end of a long day - amazing!' 'I left feeling upbeat and happy and like I wanted to do more art!'
This experience is ideal for: Beginners - it's a great workshop to introduce you to the world of drypoint! Intermediates- come along to try adding colour using a collage layer, called chine colle, to the printing process & of course return to use the printing press for more of your own creations!

Kate was a wonderful, knowledgeable and thoughtful tutor. I learnt new ways of making Drypoint Prints, using recycled Tetrapak cartons, toothbrushes, pasta machines! Amazing! I am going to attend more of Kate’s workshops.

Kate Miller have a warm welcome, was engaging, and fun. The class was very relaxed whilst being informative.
I will definitely recommend this class and any other class tan by Kate Miller to all of my friends.
Fantastic workshop. I attended on my own but was made feel very welcome by the group and host. Thank you xx
Incredible class and the teacher was fabulous - gave us guidance when we needed and let us explore our ideas
This taster course was excellent. Well explained and the tutor allowed the participants to be very creative and was encouraging. [To do with the venue (not the tutor - The venue Creative Space could do with investing in sturdier chairs...]
Kate was a brilliant tutor and the whole experience was excellent.
Loved using the back of an oat milk tetrapak for the plate.
Love that what you draw is what you print - just backwards of course
Loved the muscle power in using the mahoosive wheel on the printing press (think mangle on acid).
And of course I love my little print
Such a joy to be creative and learn from those who know what they're doing and clearly love it
Great ciurse
I absolutely loved it. Kate was a great teacher and it was a lovely environment. I really enjoyed the printing.
Well taught, good fun, creative session.
How to get here: Free parking on the streets outside. Local buses run regularly and stop very nearby.
Accessibility: The main space is wheelchair accessible but there's a step to the toilet.
What to wear: Clothes that you don't mind getting mucky although usually only painty hands.
What to bring: Possibly some design inspiration... Look for ideas that are monochrome and with a 'drawn' style. Feel free to email me if you'd like more guidance
