A tour in British Sign Language (BSL) for the Deaf Community, family and friends.
Have you ever wanted to know what is inside the Clifton Suspension Bridge? Explore the vaults of Clifton Suspension Bridge that were only discovered 20 years ago with a British Sign Language (BSL) tour inside the bridge itself.
Join Lisa Lloyd-Flach (BSL Interpreter) and Laura Hilton (Bridge Historian) as they guide you through the hidden chambers underneath the bridge tower. Your adventure begins as you climb down a ladder and into a man-made cavern lost for 160 years!
This tour is delivered in British Sign Language (BSL). A video about the tour is available here.
If you do not use BSL or lip read, details of tours in spoken English are available here.

You may wish to bring a beanie hat to wear under your hard hat for comfort.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour which was really interesting and very informative of how the bridge came about. A real WOW moment when I first enter the vaults. Amazing experiences.
Many thanks to Lisa and Laura for organising the tour. I would definitely recommend. 😃👍
A great informative tour
I really enjoyed going down the vaults and learning about how Brunel created them. So interesting and added bonus to have a BSL interpreter. I also appreciated the help down the vaults and it helped me feel confident about doing the descent. Well organised and a highlight trip.
Really very absorbing living history lesson of the clifton suspension bridge and isambard brunel narrated in depth at comfortable pace for local interested deaf people presented by the historian Laura with engaging Lisa as our BSL interpreter. Also good to hear of Bristolians sense of humour on embarrasing rear positions of the Spinx sitting pose at top of the bridge towers on approach to the bridge from Clifton and from Abbey Wood at opposite side! Pity these were removed from the plan! Superb!
Really loved the tour and being partially deaf was worried I would be left out, but I was welcomed by all and felt confident enough to use the little amount of BSL I knew. Lisa and Laura were both fab and full of knowledge! Will come back again ☺️
Brilliant tour
Description was really good
Inside the tower was amazing
Interpreter was brilliant too.
We came as a family of five Deaf people and really enjoyed the experience. It was wonderful to finally be able to fully access the tour in BSL through the interpreter.
An excellent tour - a fascinating history of the bridge. Would do it again, and have recommended to friends. Hopefully there will be more BSL tours in 2024.
The Museum does not have a car park. There are two spaces for blue badge holders. The closest pay & display parking is Burwalls Road.
It costs £1 to cross the bridge with a contactless card. Press and hold your card on the silver box at the top of the machine.
The No. 8 bus runs from Temple Meads to Clifton Village. Get off just after Tesco Express, Waterstones & The Quadrant Bar.
