You'll be hosted by

Batik Ying

Ying is a Malaysian batik artist based in Birmingham. She learned her batik skills from traditional batik artisans from Malaysia and she creates contemporary textile artwork using traditional dyeing/ wax-resist techniques.

She hopes to introduce more people to this dying art with her contemporary take on the traditional art form!

Ying (She/Her)

This fun & unique Batik Workshop is hosted by Ying from Batik Ying. Ying is an Architect turned Batik artist from Malaysia. She learnt her batik skills from traditional artisan & craftsmen in Malaysia.

Batik is a traditional Javanese wax-resist dyeing technique used to create patterns and design on textiles. Traditionally batik is only for the royal families. In the modern days, batik is made into dresses and shirts for formal events.

Over the years, batik becomes a dying art form with less people interested in them. Batik however is a simple and unique art process with endless possibilities. With her contemporary take on traditional art form, she hopes to make batik more accessible and invite more people to discover the beauty of batik together.

Don’t worry if you’re completely new. Ying’s workshop is all about getting creative and having fun discovering the unique process of creating a beautiful batik art that reflects your story and personality.

Come along to experience this therapeutic, slow and satisfying art form with Ying. You won’t regret it!
