Your Blitz experience begins in front of the Corn Exchange in the heart of the city’s Old Town.
You will be met by a 1940’s air raid warden, who will guide you through a night which changed the face of Bristol forever: the first night of the Bristol Blitz.
Your tour begins above ground where you’ll see bomb damaged buildings and hear about spies in the city, before heading below the streets to explore Bristol’s best-kept secret: our fantastically well-preserved Air Raid Shelter, a time-capsule which has remained unchanged for over 80 years.
In the shelter you’ll see drawings on the walls created during the air raids as well as original posters and signage, still in place.
Your personal air raid warden will guide you through this hidden world and answer questions before you take your seat for a demonstration of incredible artefacts from the streets of wartime Bristol.
You’ll emerge back into the 21st century, where you can explore the nation’s number one covered market and sample the best street food in town!

Really enjoyed the Air Raid Shelter Tour and Blitz Experience with my teenage son last week during the 'half-term' break. Felt a bit strange being tourists in our own city, but important to learn about your local area, and Duncan made the tour both interesting and informative, with added authenticity. Highly recommended.

An absolute MUST DO if you’re visiting Bristol. We live in Bristol since 2017 and it was just lovely to be tourists for the day. Bought this for my boyfriend as he loves history. It exceeded all expectations. Duncan is super passionate about everything he does and you can just feel that passion through his words. He made it all so interesting and fun at times. I really hope this turns into a beautiful museum one day and we will definitely visit again! Thank you Duncan for a great experience!

This is not a corporate museum tour - Duncan, the guide, is entertaining, interesting and gives a real insight into some of the items exhibited. He is passionate about increasing the profile of the tour and is interested in gathering further information, stories or items from those times. As such, this is very much a work in progress.
We really enjoyed the tour and came away with a better understanding of what people had to face at that time. Good luck to Duncan in developing this further.

We will be complying with all current COVID-19 requirements.
On the day
- We meet outside the main entrance of the Corn Exchange on Corn street
- The nearest N.C.P parking (within the clean air zone) is a 5-minute walk away on Wine Street
- We are a 10-minute walk along Victoria street from Bristol Temple Meads train station. We have public toilets available within the market
- Please wear sensible shoes and remember to bring a camera!
