Discover low-tech printmaking (4-week course)

Join your host for this playful and uplifting series of workshops with a focus on low-tech printmaking. Across the workshops, you will be introduced to a number of printmaking techniques and given the space to explore each one.

This workshop series is all about play, exploration and trying new things, rather than the final outcome. Let your creativity run wild! You will leave each one with a handful of experimental prints to be proud of.

Along with learning about a number of low-tech printmaking processes, these workshops are designed to offer you a slice of time away from your busy schedule. Spend some time at a slower pace, immersed in the joy of printmaking. Leave the experience with your creative cup full to the brim and a feeling of childlike playfulness.

Week 1 - Monoprint

During week one you will focus on monoprint. Monoprinting is an experimental process where the image can only be made once, unlike most printmaking techniques which allow multiple originals. There are many ways to create a monoprint, you will be exploring this playful and spontaneous way of creating artwork.

This will be a fun-filled and playful workshop with no expectations and no pressure - just time to lose yourself in the creative process. You will be introduced to a variety of monoprint techniques and focus on the exploration of mark-making. The workshop will be full of surprises and happy accidents as you create unpredictable and spontaneous works of art.

Week 2 - Paper stencil printing

Following on from week one you will continue to explore monoprinting with a whole workshop dedicated to printing with paper stencils. Liz will guide you through cutting your own stencils and using them to create gorgeous and richly textured prints.

Week 3 - Linocut stamps

This week will cover an introduction to lino printing. You will be shown how to carve a linocut stamp and use it to print with. You will even have the opportunity to create your very own greeting cards during the session so you can proudly post your design to your loved ones.

Week 4 - Play time

This is your time to play and experiment. You may want to focus on developing one particular technique or have a go at combining a few to create an experimental mixed media print. Your host will be there to provide support as you explore your exciting new printmaking skills.
