Start your journey in the floating harbour and explore how the stars guided sailors across the ocean. Uncover artefacts and stories of Bristol’s work in the world of space exploration through exploratory play. Discover interactive portals and wormholes that will catapult you into deep space where you’ll meet characters and hear songs of communities who live on alien planets.

Your galactic guide

Meet Bemmie, Bristol’s first spacefaring rat! Through video, audio and augmented reality, this cheeky ‘Ratronaut’ will introduce you to heartwarming stories and songs from their adventure travelling through space.

Your guide to Space Shanty

The experience is a time-travelling adventure with activities perfect for explorers of all ages. You will come across escape room-like challenges, a chance to fly a rocket, and space to mix your own unique tunes with the interactive music console.

Wapping Wharf in Bristol is a vibrant waterfront area featuring a mix of independent shops, eateries and pop-up food stalls. After exploring Space Shanty at the M Shed, enjoy harbourside views, artisanal coffee and gourmet street food just outside.

Ticketing

You will receive your e-ticket(s) from Yuup via email. This will be sent from: hello@yuup.co (please check your junk or spam folders in case it’s gone there). A copy of your ticket can also be found by logging in to your Yuup customer account and selecting ‘my experiences’.

If you have purchased multiple tickets under one booking, please note the Yuup system will generate separate QR codes for each person to scan on arrival. 

You are advised to either print a copy of your e-ticket(s) at home, or display your ticket on your mobile to be scanned at the entry gate.

It’s a shame you can’t join us. If you can no longer attend you are welcome to pass on your tickets to someone else that is fine as long as they have access to the QR e-tickets to scan on entry.

Alternatively you can contact the Yuup team via hello@yuup.co and they can help reschedule your booking for another available timeslot. 

In the event that you change your mind, unfortunately this experience is not eligible for refunds. For details, see Customer Terms and Conditions displayed at the point of booking. 

We can instead reschedule your booking date for a different timeslot dependant on availability. To arrange this please contact the team via hello@yuup.co at your earliest convenience and we can help move your booking date for you.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Yuup website and in person using a debit/ credit card from the M Shed box office desk on the ground level. 

Children under the age of 3 years go free with a full paying adult. Please select the 'Under 3's' ticket with your other ticket selections. 

Getting to the venue

M Shed is located on the Harbourside, a 5-10 minute walk from the city centre or a 20-minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station.

You can catch any bus with a city centre drop off – you’ll be dropped off at Broad Quay which is about a five minute walk away.

The M2 Metrobus service is currently diverted via Coronation Road, serving stops across the river. For more information, see service updates on the TravelWest website.

M Shed is located on the harbourside in the city centre on Wapping Road (BS1 4RN) around two miles from the M32 motorway.

There are two car parks nearby at The Grove (BS1 4RB) and Wapping Wharf (BS1 4RH). There are five disabled spaces at The Grove and three next to Brunel’s Buttery. There are four accessible spaces in the Wapping Wharf car park. You can find more car parks on the Travel West website.

It’s about a 20 minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station to M Shed.

A number of buses leave from Bristol Temple Meads to the city centre, around a five minute walk away.

There is a dedicated cycle track to the south/back of M Shed. There is no cyclist access on the dockside at the front of the museum. There are several bicycle stands on Museum Street, outside the south/back entrance of the building. 

Accessibility

Yes, we offer a complimentary ticket for registered carers attending with an individual they care for. Please select the free Carer ticket with your adult or child ticket selection.

You must be able to supply one of the following documentation dated within the past 12 months or with a valid date covering the experience:

  • Front-page of DLA letter or PIP letter 
  • Front-page of Attendance Allowance letter
  • DID card (National Disabled Identification Card)
  • Evidence of being registered as severely sight-impaired (blind)
  • Recognised Assistance Dog ID card
  • Valid Access Card showing you require a +1 to accompany you
  • Armed Forces Independent Disability Payment
  • War Disablement Pension
  • A specialist medical consultant letter stating your need for additional assistance at events

In addition, copies of the following two pieces of evidence are required in order to reserve an accessible parking space:

  • Valid Blue Badge
  • Valid Photo ID (Driver's licence/Passport or equivalent, to validate the Blue Badge)

Yes, the M Shed is accessible for wheelchair users and customers using pushchairs or prams. There is a level entrance to all entrances to the museum, galleries and cafe.

For pick ups and drop offs to access the venue there is a road at the rear of M Shed (Museum Street). 

Please find a list below of other facilities available:

  • You will find a reception desk with a section at wheelchair-user height and induction loop at the venue. 
  • Two adult-sized wheelchairs are available for loan and assistance dogs are welcome.  
  • Three wheelchair accessible lifts with spoken announcements and tactile buttons (two are fire evacuation lifts)
  • Accessible toilets on all floors (some with right hand and some with left hand transfer)
  • A free standing adult changing bench with a free standing hoist, located in the ground floor accessible toilet
  • Assistance dogs welcome

There is accessible car parking available at Wapping Wharf located behind M Shed. 

In addition there are five designated accessible parking spaces at The Grove Car Park and three next to Brunel’s Buttery on the harbour. 

For pick ups and drop offs to access the venue there is a road at the rear of M Shed (Museum Street).

Whilst the experience is accessible, one element of the experience will require a carer to assist you with entering and exiting a part of the installation due to there being a gentle incline. If you require a carer to attend with you Carer tickets are available to purchase for free via Yuup.  


About Space Shanty

We anticipate that the experience will take approximately 45 minutes in length to walk through from start to finish. Although visitors are welcome to walk through Space Shanty at their own pace. 

Space Shanty is designed to be fun for all the family to enjoy, both children and adults alike. The recommended age for this experience is  4+ however children under 3 are still very welcome to attend with an adult. Children must be supervised at all times. 

The first slot of the day begins at 10am and the final timeslot can be booked at 4.15pm with M Shed shutting doors to the public at 5pm. 

Slots run every 15 minutes, with four slots available to book per hour.
